Fraser Town, named after Stuart Fraser, one time tutor to the Mysore Maharaja, was formally set up in 1906. One of the extensions to the Cantonment it gradually incorporated Cleveland Town, parts of Mootoocherry and a couple of ‘native’ villages. The area is a mix of missionary chapels, churches and educational establishments; mosques, schools and dispensaries set up by philanthropic ‘native’ traders; Army lines; planned British bungalows and informal areas of the ‘natives’ since transformed.
